Our Story
Our House was born out of a concern to help mothers access the resources they needed to break the cycle of homelessness. In 1987, a group of faith-based volunteers partnered with the Reverend Dr. Joanna Adams to create a place where mothers could access resources and tools to create positive outcomes for themselves and their families.
In 2014, Our House merged with Genesis Shelter, led by The Temple’s Rabbi Alvin Sugarman and a diverse group of faith leaders. The merger expanded Our House’s early childhood education program to Atlanta, and added emergency shelter services to our core program offerings.
Our House has grown into an organization that employs over 50 staff and serves approximately 500 individuals impacted by homelessness each year through our Housing Services (shelter), Early Childhood Education (ECE), Employment Training Services (CDA) and Family Services (case management) programs.
